India has successfully reached their third consecutive ICC Men's Champions Trophy final. In the first semi-final held at the Dubai International Stadium, Rohit Sharma and his team triumphed over Australia by four wickets, securing their place in the final scheduled for Sunday, March 9. Following the victory, the Indian dressing room erupted in celebration, with joy evident on the faces of all the players. This achievement allowed India to finally move past the disappointment of the 2023 ODI World Cup final, where they faced defeat against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
After hitting the decisive six off Glenn Maxwell's bowling, KL Rahul was visibly ecstatic, expressing his joy with a loud cheer and receiving a heartfelt embrace from Ravindra Jadeja, who was at the opposite end. This moment marked a rare display of emotion from Rahul on the field, particularly significant given the scrutiny he faced during the 2023 ODI World Cup final.
The camera then shifted to the Indian dressing room, highlighting Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The experienced players were seen embracing one another, sharing laughter as they celebrated reaching yet another ICC event final. Virat also enthusiastically shook Rohit’s hand as India overcame the challenge posed by Australia in this knockout match.
Kohli was also seen jumping in joy and screaming from the dressing room as KL Rahul hit a massive six to take India home. KL Rahul also received a big hug from all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who scored 28 runs off 24 balls.
Hardik Pandya was at his expressive best, and he also shared laughter and hugs with Virat Kohli, the Player of the Match.
The former India captain Kohli also exchanged pleasantries with Australia captain Steve Smith and possibly applauded him for his knock of 79 in the first innings.
Kohli adjudged Player of the Match
Virat Kohli was named the Player of the Match after scoring 84 runs from 98 deliveries, significantly contributing to India's successful chase. He received valuable support from Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul, who scored 45 and an unbeaten 42 runs, respectively.
In the latter stages of the match, Hardik Pandya hit several impressive sixes off Adam Zampa, easing India's path to victory.
Earlier in the game, Australia, having chosen to bat first, were dismissed for a total of 264 runs. Steve Smith was the standout performer with 79 runs, while Alex Carey added 61 runs to the scoreboard.
Mohammed Shami claimed three wickets, while both Varun Chakaravarthy and Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets each.
India is set to compete against the winner of the semi-final match between South Africa and New Zealand at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The second semi-final is scheduled for Wednesday, March 5.
