Virat Kohli Engages in Gabba Nets Practice on Day 4 of India's Batting After Allan Border's 'Lost His Edge' Remarks; Accompanied by Gill

Former Indian captain Virat Kohli has intensified his efforts to address his vulnerability against deliveries outside the off-stump line, as he practised in the nets at the Gabba in Brisbane on Tuesday, coinciding with the team's first innings on Day 4 of the third Test match in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.
Kohli's struggles evoked memories of his challenging tour in England a decade ago, as he faced a recurring weakness that has led to a similar decline in form. On Monday, he was dismissed after attempting to play a wide delivery from Josh Hazlewood, a ball he could have easily left alone. This marked the fourth time he has been dismissed by an off-stump delivery out of five instances in the series to date.
As analysts continued to critique the modern cricketing icon, Kohli took to the nets on Tuesday in a bid to rectify his shortcomings during India's Day 4 performance at the Gabba.
Shubman Gill also joined Kohli in the nets, having experienced a disappointing tour of Australia thus far. In his second visit to the country, Gill has accumulated only 60 runs across three innings, failing to reach a fifty. Four years ago, he played a pivotal role in India's historic victory at the Gabba with a commendable score of 91. However, his performance outside of Asia has significantly declined since then, with only 200 runs in eight matches and no additional fifties.
'Virat Kohli lost his edge'
Following Sunil Gavaskar's on-air critique regarding the "poor" dismissal, the esteemed Allan Border from Australia expressed his concerns about whether Virat Kohli has "just lost that edge."
Border remarked, "Today's dismissal is typically a delivery he would have chosen to leave alone had he been in optimal form," as reported by Fox Cricket. He further questioned Kohli's mental state, pondering if he has indeed lost that competitive edge.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan suggested that Kohli's downfall stemmed from his failure to leave enough deliveries unplayed.
"He is a player who seems to be attempting to assert dominance too early," Vaughan commented.
"When he performs at his peak, especially in conditions like Australia and England where the ball tends to move more, he tends to leave the ball alone. A significant number of his dismissals in this series have come from deliveries he could have easily ignored. I don't believe he has faced an unplayable delivery," he added.
