Virat Kohli Claps Back at Broadcasters Over ‘Chole-Bhature’ Obsession
10 days ago | 5 Views
Virat Kohli, the renowned figure in Indian cricket, criticized broadcasters for their tendency to focus on trivial matters such as his lunch choices or favorite dishes rather than delving into the journeys of athletes. Over the past decade, Kohli has been a significant draw for cricket fans, and broadcasters often leverage his popularity to promote various tournaments and series. He expressed concern over the dedicated segments that highlight his past performances, habits, and culinary preferences, advocating instead for programming that educates viewers about the sport and its athletes.
As one of the most prominent figures in India's sports history, Kohli emphasized the ongoing efforts to transform India into a sports-centric nation.
“We are striving for India to become a sports-forward nation. We possess the vision, and the foundational work is currently underway. It is a shared responsibility among all stakeholders. It extends beyond just infrastructure and financial investment; it also involves the audience. Education is essential,” Kohli stated at the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit.
He further remarked that during cricket matches, the focus should be on the players' experiences rather than their meal preferences.
“A broadcast should concentrate on the game itself, not on what I had for lunch yesterday or my favorite chole-bhature spot in Delhi. Such discussions have no place in cricket matches. Instead, the conversation should revolve around the challenges faced by athletes,” he concluded.
Virat Kohli joins RCB camp
In the meantime, Kohli has already reported to the RCB camp in preparation for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. The prominent batsman will compete under the leadership of Rajat Patidar as RCB enters a new transitional phase this year with an invigorated team. For IPL 2025, the Bengaluru-based franchise has retained Virat Kohli (INR 21 crore), Rajat Patidar (INR 11 crore), and Yash Dayal (INR 5 crore), and subsequently made significant moves during the auction to assemble a well-rounded squad. Their campaign will commence against the reigning champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, in the season opener on March 22 at Eden Gardens.
