Team India cricketer Virat Kohli used his official Instagram account on Wednesday to denounce the terrorist assault in Pahalgam and convey sympathies to the families of the victims. Terrorists unleashed gunfire at a popular meadow close to Pahalgam on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in the deaths of at least 26 individuals, predominantly tourists, in what seems to be the most lethal attack in the Kashmir valley since the Pulwama incident in 2019.

“Profoundly saddened by the dreadful assault in Pahalgam on innocent individuals. Sincere condolences to the families of the victims. Wishing for peace and strength to the families of all those who lost their lives and for justice to be served for this brutal act,” Kohli shared on his official Instagram profile.

Virat Kohli posted about the Pahalgam terror attack on his official Instagram profile.

According to law enforcement, a minimum of four militants shot at tourists from a close distance. A victim's daughter informed PTI that the militants primarily focused on male tourists, requesting them to reveal their religion.

"There were numerous tourists present, but the militants particularly aimed at male tourists after inquiring if they were Hindu or Muslim," she stated.

After the assault, at least 24 bodies were recovered, and two individuals died en route to receive medical care.

In the wake of the attack, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi abbreviated his two-day trip to Saudi Arabia and returned to New Delhi early on Wednesday.

Kohli currently playing in IPL

Virat Kohli and numerous Team India players are presently engaged in the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League. Last month, the Indian team claimed the Champions Trophy title; while Pakistan hosted the tournament, India conducted all of their matches in the United Arab Emirates, due to security issues.

In light of the attack on Tuesday, former India cricketer Shreevats Goswami called on the BCCI to sever all cricketing relations with Pakistan, including competing against the nation. India last faced Pakistan during the Champions Trophy this year, triumphing over the team in a relatively one-sided match in Dubai.
