Chennai Super Kings faced their third consecutive defeat on Saturday, marking their second straight loss at home, as they fell short by 25 runs in the IPL 2025 match against Delhi Capitals. This defeat has relegated Chennai to the ninth position in the standings, with only one victory since the commencement of the tournament's 18th season.

KL Rahul demonstrated his adaptability once more, scoring 77 runs off 51 balls as an opener against Chennai, including six fours and three sixes, leading Delhi to a total of 183 for six. In response, Chennai struggled during the powerplay, losing three wickets for a mere 46 runs, their lowest tally against the new ball this season. They remain the only team in IPL 2025 to average less than eight runs per over, with a boundary percentage of just 17.24, the lowest among all teams.

During the powerplay, cameras captured young CSK player Vansh Bedi dozing off in the dugout next to Ravindra Jadeja, while Devon Conway and Vijay Shankar attempted to stabilize the innings. The wicketkeeper-batter, who impressed CSK management with his performance in the Delhi Premier League last year, was acquired for INR 55 lakhs during the mega auction.

Third straight defeat for Chennai

Delhi's momentum in the current IPL season remains strong as they secured their third consecutive victory, propelled by Rahul's outstanding batting performance and a disciplined bowling effort. This win also marked their first triumph at Chepauk in 15 years.

Chennai, on the other hand, delivered another disappointing batting performance. After losing three wickets during the powerplay, the remaining batsmen struggled to keep pace on a challenging pitch. With Mitchell Starc (1/27) bowling effectively and Mukesh Kumar (1/36) maintaining pressure from the other end, CSK faced significant difficulties. Starc successfully set a trap for Ruturaj Gaikwad (5), while Kumar dismissed Rachin Ravindra (3) after the Kiwi player edged a delivery while attempting to flick it through midwicket. Vijay Shankar was the top scorer for CSK, amassing 69 runs off 54 balls, while MS Dhoni finished unbeaten on 30 from 26 deliveries.

Chennai's next match is scheduled against Punjab Kings on Tuesday in Chandigarh, followed by a visit to Eden Gardens for a showdown with the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, on Friday.
