Vaibhav Suryavanshi has made a remarkable impact in IPL 2025. The 14-year-old talent debuted for the Rajasthan Royals, scoring 34 runs off 20 balls against the Lucknow Super Giants at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Saturday. Stepping in for the injured Sanju Samson, Suryavanshi provided an electrifying start alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. He launched his innings and IPL career with a six on the very first ball he faced, leaving Shardul Thakur astonished and causing Shane Watson to be momentarily speechless in the commentary box as Suryavanshi struck a full-length delivery for six.

Acquired for ₹1.1 crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction, Suryavanshi, a child prodigy, certainly lived up to expectations. Although his performance did not lead the Royals to victory, it sparked widespread discussion throughout the cricketing community. He received accolades from numerous cricket legends in India, all praising his exceptional talent. Additionally, Suryavanshi caught the attention of Pakistan, with former cricketer Basit Ali making a notable comment about the young player.

"The 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The way he hit that first ball for six is significant. Just think about what would have happened if he had gotten out trying to hit that first ball for six. What would the reaction have been? In Pakistan, people might have said to dismiss him. But this is how confidence is instilled, which ultimately yields results," Basit remarked on his YouTube channel.

"Consider Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Jaiswal, and Gill. They became prominent players after being granted that confidence and freedom to express themselves. If they play alongside Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, they will undoubtedly evolve into great players."

'My Pakistan bothers feel bad…'

Suryavanshi made a notable impact while opening for India U-19, scoring a remarkable century off just 58 balls against Australia in a four-day match. He played a crucial role in India's journey to the final of the 2024 Asia Cup, amassing 176 runs at an average of 44. Additionally, he achieved an impressive unbeaten triple century of 332 runs in the Randhir Verma U-19 Tournament held in Bihar.

Suryavanshi is among the emerging talents who have made their mark ahead of IPL 2025. The ongoing debate comparing the IPL to the Pakistan Super League, despite the lack of a valid basis, continues to be a hot topic, with many Pakistani cricketers often elevating the PSL above the IPL. Nonetheless, Basit stands out as an exception, openly declaring the IPL as the premier T20 league globally.

"The quality of the IPL – when I refer to it as the best, my brothers from Pakistan may feel offended. However, they merely squander their time and efforts. Just look at the vast array of talent this season alone: Nehal Wadhera, Priyansh Arya, Abdul Samad, Ashwani Kumar. I am particularly eager to see Mayank Yadav. I am looking forward to his return to match fitness, as I am keen to witness his bowling," Basit expressed.
