Spain and England: Route to final
Spain started its UEFA European Championship 2024 journey from the toughest group, Group B. Billed as the Group of Death, Group B saw collisions between Spain, defending champion Italy, Croatia and Albania. Spain defeated Croatia 3-1 and Albania 1-0. Their match with Italy ended goalless. In the round of 16, they defeated Georgia 4-1. In a delightful quarterfinal match, they defeated Germany 2-1 and in the semifinal match, they defeated France 2-1. Throughout their Euro Cup journey, Spain entertained their fans with fabulous footballing flair and strong team games.
England, on the other hand, was in Group C with Slovenia, Denmark, and Serbia. Their journey was not as smooth as Spain's. While England defeated Serbia 1-0, they drew two group matches with Denmark and Slovenia. Their journey to the second round was more of football arithmetic than skills. However, they defeated Slovakia 2-1 in the round of 16. In the quarterfinal, they defeated Switzerland in a penalty shootout and finally, they displayed their prowess as a team in the semifinal match against the Netherlands that ended 2-1.
Who will score the highest number of goals?
Six players, Netherlands’ Cody Gakpo, England’s Harry Kane, Georgia’s Georges Mikautadze, Germany’s Musiala, Spain’s Dani Olmo, and Slovalia’s Ivan Schranz, are tied with three goals each. Out of these six players, Harry Kane and Olmo will play in the final.
The final lineup for each team will be out soon. Historically, Spain won 10 matches and England won 13 matches in their previous encounters. There were four draws.
