Travis Head's Fearless Tactics Against Bumrah: Chappell's Insight Fuels MCG Test Anticipation

Jasprit Bumrah and Travis Head have really made a mark in the current Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Bumrah has bagged 21 wickets, while Travis Head leads the scoring charts with 409 runs, including two centuries. After his impressive knock at Gabba, Ravi Shastri called Head a "headache" for the Indian team.

Former Aussie player Greg Chappell believes that Travis Head has effectively "nullified" Bumrah's threat.

Bumrah has already taken two five-wicket hauls in this series, and his eight-wicket performance in the first Test in Perth was key to India's massive 295-run victory.

Chappell noted in his column for the Sydney Morning Herald that Head's fearless batting against Bumrah is impressive.

“While many batsmen find it tough to face Bumrah’s unique style, speed, and pinpoint accuracy, Head has treated him like just another bowler,” he mentioned.

Even though Head has racked up over 400 runs in the series, Bumrah has managed to dismiss him twice.

'Nullified his threat'

Travis Head has been on fire in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which is currently tied at 1-1. He smashed 140 runs in Adelaide, leading Australia to a solid ten-wicket victory.

Then, he followed it up with 152 runs in the first innings of the Gabba Test, putting Australia in a strong position, but unfortunately, rain cut the match short, resulting in a draw.

Chappell pointed out that by playing aggressively and targeting Bumrah, Head has not only neutralized his threat but also thrown him off his game. His knack for handling short balls with power and driving fuller deliveries accurately has been impressive, showing how much he’s improved.

Head has consistently performed well against India, having previously scored centuries in both the World Test Championship final and the 50-over World Cup.

Chappell thinks Travis Head could be the next captain of Australia, calling him the "most improved" batsman in the world right now.

"By adopting a scoring mindset, he’s found a level of consistency and impact that many of his peers struggle to achieve," Chappell noted.

"I truly believe Travis is the most improved batter in world cricket over the last three years, and because of that, he’s a strong contender to be the next Australian captain," he added.
