Travis Head showcased his exceptional batting prowess once again, overpowering the Indian bowling attack on Day 2 of the ongoing third Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test match at the Gabba in Brisbane on Sunday. The Australian team concluded the day at 405/7 in 101 overs, with Alex Carey (45*) and Mitchell Starc (7*) remaining at the crease.

Head continued his impressive form from the Adelaide Test, achieving consecutive centuries. He scored 152 runs off 160 deliveries, including 18 boundaries, demonstrating complete dominance. His partnership of 241 runs with Steve Smith for the fourth wicket proved to be a significant contribution. In a post-match interview, Head discussed his approach to facing the in-form pacer Jasprit Bumrah, emphasizing the importance of responding appropriately to Bumrah's deliveries and the necessity of being proactive with his forward defence.

Travis Head discusses strategies for confronting Jasprit Bumrah.

Jasprit Bumrah targets the base of the stumps early in his bowling approach. However, the key lies in the ability to react effectively. He possesses a formidable bouncer and delivers exceptional wicket-taking deliveries. For me, the focus should be on maintaining a positive mindset when facing him. This does not necessarily imply that I must score runs off him, but rather that I should adopt a proactive stance with my forward defence, he remarked.

Bumrah played a crucial role in breaking the partnership, swiftly dismissing both Head and Smith. He achieved another five-wicket haul, claiming the wickets of Usman Khawaja (21), Nathan McSweeney (9), Smith (101), Head (152), and Mitchell Marsh (5). Smith also made a significant contribution, scoring 101 runs off 190 balls, which included 12 boundaries.

In the second Test held in Adelaide, Head delivered an outstanding performance, scoring a remarkable century of 140 runs off just 141 balls. His innings was instrumental in levelling the series at 1-1 for Australia.

Regarding his team's prospects for the World Test Championship Final, he stated, "The top six in our batting lineup is shaping up well, and I am optimistic about our performance in Sri Lanka as we aim for the WTC final. I am particularly pleased for Smudge, who has faced numerous challenges, and it is gratifying to see him return to his peak form."
