Thunderstorm warning out for the pink-ball Test as India faces unusual weather. They’re ready to pull the covers!

Adelaide Oval's head curator, Damian Hough, is a bit worried about the weather leading up to the second Test between India and Australia. Thunderstorms are expected to roll into South Australia on Friday, which is the first day of this highly anticipated pink-ball Test. Hough mentioned that rain this time of year in Adelaide is pretty rare, calling it “unique.”
"Looks like Friday could bring some thunderstorms, which is kind of unusual for Adelaide this time of year," Hough said. "I’m not really sure when the storms will roll in, but we’ll probably need to throw the covers on the pitch Friday. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that it clears up by Saturday morning so we can play without any problems for the rest of the Test."
The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has backed up the possibility of rain for the opening day, predicting between 0 to 7mm of precipitation and a 70 percent chance of storms. It’s still unclear how long the storms might stick around, but Hough is hopeful the weather will cooperate after Friday.
Looking ahead, the outlook for the rest of the match is brighter. “The forecast is looking really good, with no rain expected for the last three days and only about 2mm forecasted for day two,” Hough added, which should be a relief for players and fans alike.
"Field in Adelaide"
The pitch at Adelaide Oval is known for its bounce under the lights, and it was looking a bit green just four days before the first ball is bowled, which is pretty normal for pitches right before Australian Test matches. It’ll be interesting to see how things change as the days go by.
Hough said, “We’re just trying to mimic what goes on in the Shield and Test prep, whether we’re using a red or pink ball. The setups are pretty much the same.”
In the recent Shield match between South Australia and Western Australia, it was clear that if you don’t get a new ball under the lights and have a couple of batters who are already set, you can really handle the night-time cricket.
