Abhishek Sharma electrified the Wankhede Stadium with a remarkable display of power-hitting, guiding India to a commanding 150-run victory over England in the fifth T20I. He shattered the record for the highest score by an Indian in T20 cricket, amassing an impressive 135 runs off just 54 deliveries, which included seven fours and an astonishing 13 sixes.

In addition to setting a new benchmark for Indian players in this format, Abhishek also claimed the record for the most sixes hit by an Indian in a T20I match, surpassing the previous record of 10 set by Rohit Sharma. When asked about other notable performances by "Sharma," Abhishek acknowledged Rohit in a video on the BCCI's website.

Furthermore, Abhishek elaborated on his celebration upon reaching his half-century, where he raised his index finger and thumb. “This is ‘Love’,” he explained. “I had envisioned how I would celebrate if I scored a century. However, when the moment arrived, I was completely overwhelmed. All my emotions were genuine,” he remarked.

‘Felt coach and captain believe in me more than I believe myself’

Abhishek's position within the team had been scrutinized before the commencement of the series. Although he had achieved a century against Zimbabwe in only his second T20I match, he had subsequently managed to score just one half-century in nine innings leading up to the first T20I against England at Eden Gardens. He commenced this series with an impressive performance, scoring 79 runs off 34 balls in Kolkata, which contributed significantly to India's commanding seven-wicket victory.

However, following that innings, he recorded scores of 12, 24, and 29 before achieving a century at Wankhede. “I understand that when it is my day, I will seize the opportunity, even if it is the very first ball of the match. Fortunately, today was my day, and I am very thankful,” he remarked.

The 24-year-old also expressed his appreciation for captain Surakumar Yadav and head coach Gautam Gambhir for the confidence they have placed in him. “I sensed that they have more faith in me than I have in myself, which provided me with considerable motivation. I truly appreciate that the captain and coach have emphasized the importance of maintaining an aggressive mindset. Hearing that from a captain or coach is incredibly encouraging,” he stated.
