India, Jan. 27 -- Jannik Sinner secured his second consecutive Australian Open title by overcoming Alexander Zverev in the men's singles final held at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on Sunday. The match was largely dominated by Sinner, who triumphed with a score of 6-3, 7-6, 6-3.

Throughout his title defense, Sinner showcased his prowess by defeating opponents such as Nicolas Jarry, Tristan Schoolkate, Marcos Giron, Holger Rune, and Alex de Minaur. He then advanced to the finals by defeating Ben Shelton in the semi-finals in straight sets.

This victory marked Sinner's third Grand Slam title; however, the upcoming Australian Open 2025 may be his final Major of the year as he approaches a CAS hearing regarding his doping case. The hearing is set for April 16-17, and a negative outcome could result in a ban of up to two years.

In the post-match press conference following his victory over Zverev, Sinner was inquired about the impending hearing. He responded, "It’s difficult to comment. I’m not focused on that right now. I just completed an incredible run here, and I wish to savor this moment." He added, "Now that we have the date for the hearing, that’s all there is to it. At this moment, I want to relish this achievement."

Sinner's title run at the US Open last year was marred by controversy after it was disclosed that he had tested positive for clostebol on two occasions in March. However, an independent tribunal accepted his explanation that the positive results were due to unintentional contamination. According to Sinner, the steroid entered his system when his physiotherapist applied a spray to treat a cut and subsequently provided a massage and therapy.

As a result of the controversy, Sinner terminated the contracts of his physiotherapist Giacomo Naldi and athletic trainer Umberto Ferrara at the end of August last year, as they were also implicated in the unintentional contamination.

In an interview with La Stampa, Naldi expressed his hope that he would eventually be able to provide a comprehensive account of the events. He noted that the public's interpretation of the situation has predominantly placed the blame on him, which he contends is an inaccurate representation. He emphasized that those who have taken the time to read the verdict understand that the reality is more complex, acknowledging that not everyone has engaged with the details of the case.
