"That's a Lie": Vaughan Defends Jadeja Amidst Australian Media Controversy

Former England captain Michael Vaughan remarked that the entire situation regarding Ravindra Jadeja's press conference could have been circumvented had the Australian journalists employed Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to transcribe the Hindi audio into English. During India's initial media engagement prior to the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, the Australian media expressed their frustration as Jadeja responded solely in Hindi. The BCCI media team communicated that Jadeja would be unable to answer questions in English due to time constraints, as they needed to "catch the bus." This explanation was not well received by the local reporters, who reportedly acted inappropriately towards the media manager, continuing to film the proceedings even after the press conference had concluded, despite requests to cease.
Channel 7 published a report filled with inaccuracies, attributing blame to Jadeja for "refusing" to respond in English. In truth, the Indian all-rounder was not at fault; the press conference was primarily intended for the traveling Indian media, and thus, all inquiries were posed in Hindi. Jadeja, naturally more proficient in that language, provided his answers accordingly.
Vaughan asserted that the commotion surrounding the language issue was unwarranted, as AI tools could have been utilized to translate Jadeja's statements.
"India is a formidable force. They clearly believe that filming families at the airport crosses a line, and this is their method of response. It simply adds more drama, in my opinion. There are AI systems available that can translate Hindi into Australian English. So if they are unwilling to converse in English, they could simply input it into the system, and it would be rendered in Australian English. You could quote Jadeja based on what the AI produces. While it may not be an exact match, it could certainly be amusing," he stated during the Club Prairie Fire podcast.
'I like a bit of spice before the Boxing Day Test': Vaughan
The former England cricketer made a humorous comment regarding the Indian media manager's statement about having a bus to catch while declining inquiries from the Australian press, asserting that the Indian team does not travel by bus.
"I appreciate a bit of excitement in the series. I enjoy the contest between Mohammed Siraj and Travis Head... and what Jadeja has contributed. I have a fondness for the Indian press officer. He has been in his role for some time. We have encountered some challenges with him in the UK. I admire how he manages the media and tells them to leave. 'We have a bus to catch.'
"I doubt they actually use buses. That seems untrue. I believe they travel in cars. I am quite certain they do not utilize a double-decker team bus. They have some impressive vehicles," he remarked.
India is set to face Australia in the Boxing Day Test on Thursday, with the five-match series currently tied at 1-1.
