The Indian men's cricket team, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, is poised to debut a new jersey during the upcoming three-match ODI series against England at home, in preparation for the 2025 Champions Trophy. This series is scheduled to commence on Thursday at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur.

In contrast to the previous ODI jersey worn during the tour of Sri Lanka in July of the previous year, the new kit features a tri-colour gradient design on the shoulder blades. The Indian men's team will don this jersey throughout the England ODI series and the Champions Trophy. Notably, it was first showcased by the women's team, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, during their recent home series against Ireland last month. The jersey was officially unveiled by Jay Shah, the former BCCI secretary and current ICC Chairman, alongside the women's team in November of the previous year.

New Jersey, fresh wins

India, adorned in their new kit, aims to move past previous challenges as they finalize their preparations for the Champions Trophy. With their last ODI match occurring in July 2024, the upcoming series against England is pivotal for the team management to determine their final playing XI for the tournament, especially given the uncertainty surrounding a potential practice match in Dubai before the event.

Attention will be focused on captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have faced significant criticism following their lacklustre performances in red-ball cricket. After underwhelming showings in the Ranji Trophy last month, both players are eager to deliver strong performances in a format where they have historically excelled. Kohli and Rohit were the leading run-scorers in the 2023 World Cup, with Kohli amassing 765 runs and Rohit contributing 597.

Additionally, India must assess the resilience of their bowling attack, particularly in light of concerns regarding Jasprit Bumrah's fitness. The 31-year-old fast bowler, currently recovering from back spasms and having been sidelined since early January, has not yet been confirmed for the Champions Trophy, despite being included in the squad. Consequently, the responsibility will fall on Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh during the ODI series against England.
