Suryakumar Yadav, the captain of Team India in T20I matches, expressed his intention to maintain a distance from the stump microphone, emphasizing that he wishes to preserve the unique charm associated with Rohit Sharma. Surya assumed the captaincy following Rohit's retirement from the shortest format after India's victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup. The elegant batsman has been effectively guiding the Indian team through a transitional period following the retirements of both Rohit and Virat Kohli.
Rohit Sharma continues to lead the team in ODIs and T20Is and is well-known for his entertaining interactions with the stump mic, which have gained considerable attention online. However, Surya is not inclined to compete with him in this regard.
"I make an effort to stay away from the stumps. If it is someone's specialty, it is preferable that it remains with that individual," he remarked during an interview with Star Sports.
Surya also defended Rohit's playful nature by referencing his well-known garden dialogue.
"Yes, when we are wandering in the garden, we inevitably hear those things," he noted.
Nevertheless, he indicated that he does not need to instruct his players to refrain from wandering on the field.
"No, I do not stop anyone because no one actually roams around," he stated.

Suryakumar Yadav described captaincy as merely an additional responsibility. Under his leadership, the team has flourished, with rising stars like Tilak Varma and Nitish Kumar Reddy making notable progress alongside seasoned players such as Sanju Samson, Rinku Singh, and Hardik Pandya. This combination of youth and experience has infused the squad with a revitalizing energy.
In the meantime, the new T20I captain is enjoying his role and mentioned that he does not perceive a significant difference after taking on this added responsibility.
Both activities are enjoyable. It simply entails an additional responsibility. I continue to engage in the same tasks as before; however, there is now an extra element included. Overall, not much has altered. The enjoyment remains, he remarked.
