Suryakumar Yadav's Stumps Fall: Mumbai Player Faces Continued Batting Struggles in Ranji Return
1 month ago | 5 Views
Suryakumar Yadav struggled to regain his form upon his return to first-class cricket, as he recorded yet another disappointing score in the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal against Haryana. After leading India to a 4-1 series victory over England, he resumed his responsibilities with his domestic team. The Mumbaikar has been experiencing a decline in performance lately, and his return to red-ball cricket did not yield positive results, as he was dismissed for a mere 9 runs on Saturday.
During the five-match series, Surya faced challenges against the pace and bounce delivered by Jofra Archer and Mark Wood, accumulating only 28 runs. In the match against Haryana, Sumit Kumar bowled an exceptional delivery that swung back to knock over Surya's stumps, leaving the Mumbai player in disbelief.
The 34-year-old faced significant criticism from fans on social media following yet another batting failure. His recent performances against England also reflected his struggles, with scores of 2, 0, 14, 12, and 0.
With the addition of Surya and powerful all-rounder Shivam Dube, Mumbai appeared to be in a more robust and stable position. However, the outcome was disappointing, as they lost seven wickets for a total of 113 runs. Dube also struggled to make a significant contribution, being dismissed for 28 runs by Ajit Chahal, as the T20I specialists did not perform well upon their return to red-ball cricket.
Surya impresses as captain
Despite his recent struggles, Surya has continued to guide the Indian team to significant achievements in the T20 format. Since assuming the captaincy following Rohit Sharma's retirement, he has successfully led India to consecutive series victories against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, South Africa, and England.
Following a bold batting performance against England in the fifth T20I, Surya shared insights on India's evolving strategy and their aspirations for the shortest format of the game.
“It is essential to be instinctive on the field; if you believe a player can make an impact, give them the opportunity. This is a topic we have discussed extensively, focusing on the style of cricket we aim to embody, and we are committed to maintaining that approach. It is a game characterized by high risks and high rewards, but ultimately, we are achieving positive outcomes,” Suryakumar remarked during the post-match presentation.
