Suryakumar Yadav Silences Critics Over Rohit Sharma’s Fitness After Political Jibe
1 month ago | 5 Views
Team India, led by Rohit Sharma, is preparing for yet another ICC final as they face New Zealand in the Champions Trophy 2025 title match on March 9. The Men in Blue have maintained an unbeaten streak throughout the tournament and are just one victory away from clinching consecutive ICC trophies, following their successful T20 World Cup campaign in 2024.
Despite his remarkable achievements as a captain, Rohit Sharma has faced criticism regarding his fitness levels. This issue gained traction when a political figure from the Indian National Congress publicly questioned his physical condition, igniting further debate.
In a post on X, Congress member Shama Mohamed remarked that Rohit appeared "fat" for an athlete and suggested that he should "lose weight."
In response to the criticism, India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has come to Rohit's defense, praising his contributions and downplaying the fitness concerns.
Suryakumar Yadav acknowledged Rohit Sharma’s leadership and dedication, highlighting that his record as captain is a testament to his capabilities.
“If you look at his captaincy, over the past four years, he has led the team to the finals of four ICC tournaments, which is a significant achievement. Playing cricket for 15-20 years is no small feat. I understand the importance of fitness to him. I have observed his dedication closely; he works extremely hard – in my opinion, he is at the top of his game, and I wish him all the best for the finals,” Suryakumar expressed.
Under Rohit’s leadership, India has consistently proven to be a formidable contender in major ICC tournaments, having ended an 11-year title drought with their T20 World Cup victory last year.
Rohit Sharma eyes redemption
As India gears up for the decisive clash against New Zealand, Rohit Sharma finds himself with a remarkable chance to solidify his legacy. The Men in Blue have had an impeccable tournament, navigating the group stage without a loss and subsequently overpowering Australia in the semi-final.
For Rohit, this final offers an opportunity for redemption following India's previous ICC ODI World Cup at home, where they suffered a disappointing loss to Australia. With only one hurdle remaining to achieve glory, Team India is determined to exorcise the memories of the past and secure a second ICC title in consecutive years.
