Suryakumar Yadav has made a steady return to form, scoring a rapid 27 runs off just nine balls against the Kolkata Knight Riders, contributing to the Mumbai Indians' eight-wicket victory on Monday. This impressive performance allowed SKY to become the fifth Indian player to surpass 8000 runs in T20 cricket.

By the conclusion of the innings, Suryakumar's total in the format reached 8007 runs, achieved over 288 innings with a strike rate of 152.28 and an average of 34.21, including six centuries and 54 half-centuries. In T20 Internationals, where he serves as captain for India, he has amassed 2598 runs at a strike rate of 167.07 and an average of 38.20 across 79 innings, featuring four centuries and 21 half-centuries.

Suryakumar ranks as the fifth highest run-scorer among Indian players in T20s. Suresh Raina leads with 8654 runs from 319 innings, followed by Shikhar Dhawan with 9797 runs in 331 innings, and Rohit Sharma with 11,838 runs in 437 innings. Virat Kohli holds the record for the highest runs by an Indian in this format, totaling 12,976 runs in 384 innings.

During the match on Monday, Suryakumar struck three fours and two sixes, effectively sealing MI's chase of 117 runs. He began the 13th over bowled by Andre Russell with consecutive fours and concluded the match with a signature 'Supla' six.

Regarded as one of the top T20 batsmen globally, Suryakumar had faced challenges in his form following India's triumph in the 2024 T20 World Cup. In five T20I innings earlier this year before the IPL, he managed only 28 runs at a strike rate of 116.66 and a disappointing average of 5.60. He commenced the IPL season with a 29 off 26 balls in MI's four-wicket defeat to CSK and followed that with a score of 48 off 28 balls in MI's second match, which ended in a 36-run loss to the Gujarat Titans.
