"Suryakumar Yadav Backs Sanju Samson Amid KCA Tussle: 'No Doubts About His Place'"
2 months ago | 5 Views
Team India captain Suryakumar Yadav has reiterated his unwavering confidence in Sanju Samson, asserting that there is no doubt regarding the wicketkeeper's position in the T20I squad. Despite being omitted from India's Champions Trophy roster, Samson has recently faced challenges with the Kerala Cricket Association. He was not chosen to represent Kerala in the recent Vijay Hazare Trophy after opting out of a three-day training camp prior to the tournament.
KCA president Jayesh George has publicly criticized the senior wicketkeeper, emphasizing that he cannot simply "show up for Kerala at his convenience."
Nevertheless, Samson has found support from T20I captain Suryakumar, who has affirmed that he is a guaranteed selection due to his remarkable performance in recent games.
"There is no uncertainty regarding the wicketkeeper. Sanju has performed exceptionally well in the last seven to eight matches. He has demonstrated his capabilities," Suryakumar remarked.
Following Rohit Sharma's retirement from T20Is, Sanju seized the opportunity, showcasing his talent as an opener in the shortest format with a century against Bangladesh on home soil. He subsequently made history by becoming the first player to score three centuries in T20Is within a single calendar year. However, it appears that the selectors do not share the same level of confidence in him for ODIs.
‘Sanju Samson has really made use of the opportunity provided’
The captain highlighted that Samson's knack for seizing opportunities has been instrumental in India's achievements. "That is the expectation we have for all players. He has been presented with a chance and has truly capitalised on it. I am genuinely pleased for him," he remarked.
In the previous year, Samson played 13 T20 Internationals, amassing 436 runs at an average of 43.60 and a strike rate exceeding 180, which included three centuries and one half-century. His highest score was 111. Additionally, Dhruv Jurel, Samson's teammate in the IPL, is the other wicketkeeper included in India's squad for the five-match series against England; however, it is highly probable that he will remain on the bench for most of the series.
