Srikkanth fumes over CSK’s ‘Test match’ batting, tells 'nostalgia'-hit MS Dhoni and co. to roll dice on Prithvi Shaw

Chennai Super Kings have reached a new low following a humiliating loss to the reigning champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, at Chepauk. This marks the first time this season that the five-time champions have suffered five consecutive defeats, and the return of MS Dhoni as captain did not prevent the team from being overwhelmed by the Knight Riders.

The batting lineup struggled significantly, appearing to be devoid of solutions during a dismal performance on Friday night, where they managed to score only 103 runs for 9 wickets while playing at home. The absence of Ruturaj Gaikwad exacerbated the situation, leading CSK to sacrifice Matheesha Pathirana in order to utilize the Impact Player rule for Deepak Hooda as they faced a collapse against KKR's spin attack. This defeat marked CSK's third loss at Chepauk this year, a first in the franchise's history.

Krishnamachari Srikkanth, the 1983 World Cup-winning cricketer, did not hold back in his criticism of Chennai on social media, stating that the entire team seems to be operating on nostalgia. He suggested a creative approach, recommending that the management consider signing an unsold player like Prithvi Shaw to turn their fortunes around, especially with Gaikwad already ruled out and a replacement needed.

“One of CSK's worst defeats ever. The batting during the powerplay resembled a practice session for a test match. The entire XI appears to be living in the past. It’s time to think creatively; why not explore options like unsold players such as Prithvi Shaw at this juncture? Would you consider it? Even chaos can be a strategy,” Srikkanth expressed on X.

R Ashwin struggles with the ball again!

After  restricting CSK to 103/9 - this season's lowest score, KKR didn't find any difficulty chasing the paltry target. KKR cantered home in 10.1 overs, with opener Sunil Narine bludgeoning his way to a 18-ball 44 studded with two fours and five sixes. Captain Ajinkya Rahane also played his part with a solid 20 not out off 17 balls, while Quinton de Kock, the other opener, contributed 23. Rinku Singh also remained not out on 15 off 12 balls. It was another underwhelming night for CSK's big buy this season, R Ashwin, who leaked 30 runs in three overs and failed to claim any wickets.
