Lionel Messi is pretty private, so not a lot is known about his personal life. However, last year, he found himself in a bit of a scandal when rumors surfaced about an affair with Argentine sports reporter Sofi Martinez. These whispers started after a super emotional interview she did with him following Argentina's win at the 2022 FIFA World Cup went viral.

Recently, Martinez decided to address these rumors. During a chat on the PH: Podemos Hablar show on Telefe, she talked about the sudden fame and the not-so-great parts that come with it.

She claimed that fans were the ones spreading the gossip about her and Messi. It's worth noting that Messi has been happily married to his childhood sweetheart, Roccuzzo, since 2017, and they have three young boys together.

Sometimes, when you get more attention, it can bring along some not-so-great stuff, and my family really feels the impact. This year, people started making comments like, ‘What’s up with the way he looks at you?’ and I found myself in a situation that felt silly to have to explain,” Martinez shared.

In a 2023 chat, Martinez clarified that the gossip didn’t originate from Roccuzzo or any supposed jealousy. “No way, not at all. I honestly have no idea where that came from. I did go out with Antonela once, and I really admire how she handles all the craziness around them and their family life, which I genuinely appreciate,” she mentioned.

“It’s truly impressive to see how they navigate their life together, sharing their daily experiences without any flashy nonsense. He’s definitely the best in the world alongside Antonela,” she continued.

Messi and Roccuzzo have been friends since their teenage years but officially started dating in 2008. They tied the knot in 2017 in their hometown of Rosario. Interestingly, she’s also the cousin of his childhood best buddy, Lucas Scaglia, who used to play football too. The Argentine superstar first acknowledged their relationship in a 2009 interview and went public about it a month later during a carnival.
