India, Jan. 9 -- Lionel Messi is recognized for his reclusive nature, with limited information available regarding his personal affairs. However, last year, he became embroiled in a scandal that suggested he was involved in an affair with Argentine sports journalist Sofi Martinez. The speculation arose following a highly emotional interview in which Martinez spoke with Messi after Argentina's triumph at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which quickly gained widespread attention.

Recently, Martinez addressed these allegations during an appearance on the PH: Podemos Hablar program on Telefe, where she discussed the challenges that come with sudden fame.

She claimed that fans have perpetuated rumours regarding a supposed affair with Messi. Messi has been married to his childhood sweetheart, Roccuzzo, since 2017, and they have three young sons together.

"Often, increased visibility brings along negative aspects, and my family endures a lot of distress. This year, discussions intensified around comments like, 'What’s up with the way he looks at you?' and I found myself in a situation that felt absurd, having to clarify these matters," Martinez stated.

In a 2023 interview, she clarified that the rumours did not originate from Roccuzzo or any supposed jealousy on her part. "No, absolutely not. I truly have no idea where this originated. In fact, I once went out with Antonella, and I have immense respect for how she navigates the chaos of their lives and the family they have built, which I genuinely admire," she remarked.

"It is truly commendable to observe how they handle their life together, sharing their daily experiences without ostentation, making him undoubtedly the best in the world alongside Antonela," she added.

Messi and Roccuzzo have been acquainted since their teenage years, officially beginning their relationship in 2008. They wed in 2017 in their hometown of Rosario. Roccuzzo is also the cousin of Messi's childhood best friend, Lucas Scaglia, a former football player. Messi first acknowledged their relationship in a 2009 interview.
