New Delhi: Smriti Mandhana (77) and Richa Ghosh (54) powered India to a convincing 60-run victory over West Indies in the third T20I, securing the series 2-1 at DY Patil, Navi Mumbai on Thursday.
India showcased a stellar batting display, finishing with a total of 217/4, marking their highest score in T20I history after being asked to bat first.
Captain Mandhana set the tone after Uma Chetry was out for a duck, bowled by Chinelle Henry. The stylish left-hander hit seven boundaries in quick succession, racking up 30 runs off Henry and Deandra Dottin. Partnering with Jemimah Rodrigues, they formed a solid 98-run partnership for the second wicket, with Mandhana reaching her third straight T20I fifty in just 27 balls.
Rodrigues was in great form until Afy Fletcher got her out for 39. After Mandhana was dismissed for 77, Ghosh took charge, smashing the joint-fastest fifty by a woman in just 18 balls, matching Sophie Devine and Phoebe Litchfield. She and all-rounder Raghavi Bist (31) put together a solid 70-run partnership. Ghosh got out on the second-to-last ball of the Indian innings, but her efforts helped India rack up an impressive total.
The Indian bowlers then delivered a strong performance, with Radha Yadav shining by taking 4 wickets for 29 runs. A 37-run partnership between Deandra Dottin (25) and captain Hayley Matthews (22) looked promising for the West Indies, but the Indian bowlers kept taking wickets at crucial moments.
Chinelle Henry was on fire, smashing 43 runs off just 16 balls and looking like she might take control of the game. She teamed up with wicket-keeper Shermaine Campbell for a solid 34-run partnership, but the Indian bowlers stayed calm under pressure. Once Henry was out, it was a turning point, and the lower-order batters couldn't finish the job, leaving the West Indies at 157/9 in their chase.
This marked India's first T20I series win at home in five years, with their last victory dating back to October 2019 against South Africa.
