Smriti Mandhana is on fire in 2024, adding yet another highlight to her record-breaking year with an impressive display against the West Indies. In the final match of their three-game series at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, she helped India secure a 60-run win.
Mandhana's stellar innings of 77 off just 47 balls contributed to India's total of 217/4 in the first innings. This performance also marked her 30th score of 50 or more in women's T20I cricket, making her the all-time leader in this category, surpassing New Zealand's Suzie Bates, who has 28 fifties and one century.
As she aims to take over the captaincy from Harmanpreet Kaur, Mandhana stepped in as captain for the second and third T20Is. She shone throughout the series, scoring a half-century in each match and finishing with a total of 193 runs.
In the third T20I, she had an incredible moment where she hit a boundary off every ball in a seven-delivery span, racking up 30 runs in that explosive streak. So far in 2024, Mandhana has amassed an impressive 763 runs in T20Is, leading all players with an average of 42.38 and a strike rate of 126.53.
Mandhana aims to wrap up an amazing 2024 with flair
Mandhana wrapped up an incredible year with her impressive performance in T20Is, also leading Royal Challengers Bangalore to their first WPL title in India’s domestic franchise league.
The left-handed batter made history by scoring four centuries in ODIs, the highest by any player in a single calendar year, surpassing both Harmanpreet Kaur and Mithali Raj to reach a total of 9 WODI centuries.
To top it all off, she hit her second Test century, scoring a brilliant 149 against South Africa in Chennai during India’s victory in the one-off Test. Despite a fantastic year, it was slightly overshadowed by India’s early exit in the Women’s T20 World Cup.
Now, the focus shifts to the upcoming three-match ODI series against the Windies in Vadodara, as the team gears up for the home ODI World Cup scheduled for late 2025.
