Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana has partnered with esteemed UK-based coach Don Bhagawati to inaugurate the City Cricket Academy by Smriti Mandhana at Dubai International Academy Al Barsha, a cutting-edge facility dedicated to cricket development.

The academy is designed to serve as a high-performance center for both boys and girls of all ages, merging Don’s extensive two-decade coaching expertise with Smriti’s modern perspectives gained from international competition. Additionally, Don’s wife, a former England cricketer, contributes her considerable experience and understanding to the mentoring process, creating a comprehensive environment for nurturing young talent.

“Don and his family have always embraced me as one of their own. The City Cricket Academy by Smriti Mandhana is more than just a training center; it is a space where aspiring cricketers are inspired to dream big, reflect deeply, and develop as individuals. Don and his wife have a profound understanding of the mindset of young athletes and the challenges associated with elite cricket. For me, this initiative is a meaningful way to give back to the sport that has given me so much,” Mandhana expressed, outlining the academy's mission.

Coach Don Bhagawati, delighted to witness the academy's establishment in Dubai, commended Smriti’s exceptional and timely dedication: "Smriti embodies the utmost level of commitment and integrity in cricket. It is inspiring to see her desire to contribute back to the sport, even while competing at the highest level. Since the first women’s match in the 1700s, this may be one of the first instances of a global icon taking on a grassroots leadership role while still actively playing. I am immensely proud of her, and I believe the City Cricket Academy will enhance the game for future generations."

“I am delighted to become an icon player for the Ratnagiri Jets. The franchise has shown remarkable success in the MPL and possesses a clear vision for advancing women's cricket. I look forward to contributing to this exciting journey and am eager to collaborate with my new teammates. Together, we aspire to inspire and capture hearts both on and off the field,” she stated.
