Slip of Tongue: Ex-India Cricketer Links Dhoni with SRH, Sehwag’s One-Liner Sets Record Straight

Virender Sehwag was straightforward during a live post-match show when his ex-India teammate Amit Mishra got sidetracked in a conversation intended to center on Sunrisers Hyderabad. The interaction occurred during a live YouTube session on Cricbuzz, shortly after SRH’s disheartening seven-wicket loss to Mumbai Indians on Thursday.
With only two victories from eight games, SRH currently occupy the second-to-last position on the IPL 2025 points table. Understandably, the discussion shifted toward their chances of making the playoffs. But when Mishra was questioned directly about whether SRH could secure a top-four finish, he oddly redirected the conversation to Chennai Super Kings and MS Dhoni instead.
“I believe it’s nearly impossible,” Mishra stated, and mistakenly began to discuss CSK's performance.
“The style of cricket they are currently playing makes it difficult to win all six matches. For that, they would need to excel in every aspect. If Dhoni bats higher up the order, he has to face at least 30 deliveries, with all due respect to their top order. ”
That’s when Sehwag intervened, correcting his former Indian teammate: “The inquiry was regarding SRH, not Dhoni or CSK. ”
A somewhat embarrassed Mishra quickly apologized, only for Sehwag to deliver another playful jab: “It’s all due to Dhoni’s presence. ” The moment evoked laughter from the panel as Mishra returned to discussing Sunrisers' issues.
Cummins on SRH defeat
Meanwhile, SRH captain Pat Cummins provided a sobering post-match insight after his team found themselves at 35 for 5, before a recovery effort from Heinrich Klaasen and Abhinav Manohar led them to a respectable total.
“Abhinav and Klassy helped us reach a good total, but we couldn’t get through this innings,” Cummins stated. “We needed someone to really stabilize the ship. ”
SRH will aim to recover swiftly as they take on CSK next in Chennai – a clash between two struggling giants of the season. CSK currently sits at the bottom of the table with two wins in eight matches – the same as SRH – but are behind Cummins' team on Net Run Rate.
