Is there a rift between Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli? Did Gill make a remark aimed at the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) supporters? In this instance, the trigger was Gill's initial post on X during IPL 2025 on April 2 (Wednesday), following his team's victory over RCB at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, which may have conveyed a deeper message, with its enigmatic nature capturing attention.

Gill re-emerged on X with a cryptic message after the Gujarat Titans triumphed over RCB by 8 wickets. “Eyes on the game, not the noise,” the GT captain stated.

This seven-word statement came from a captain whose team had just achieved a commanding win against an undefeated opponent in the tournament. However, fans interpreted it differently. The last three words of the post certainly carry an ambiguous tone. What "noise" was Gill referring to? Was it aimed at the boisterous RCB supporters at Chinnaswamy? Or perhaps a response to Kohli's exuberant celebration?

It is unsurprising that fans quickly began to speculate, searching for hidden meanings. Most interpretations were linked to Kohli.

"Context: Virat Kohli was making too much noise when Bhuvi got Shubman Gill out," read several comments accompanied by a photo of Kohli celebrating after Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Gill.

"We all know the noise he is talking about," remarked another fan, sharing the same image of Kohli. Numerous similar comments followed.

The central question is whether the reactions from fans hold any validity. Kohli exhibited considerable enthusiasm when celebrating Gill's wicket, marked by loud cheers and shouts; however, it is rare to see Kohli display such restraint following a significant wicket taken from the opposition. Furthermore, both Gill and Kohli exemplify the relationship between a mentor and a protégé. Kohli has previously acknowledged that at the age of 19, when he first joined the Indian team during a tour of New Zealand, he did not possess the same level of talent as Gill.

The affectionate embrace and broad smile shared at the conclusion of Wednesday's match further illustrate the strong bond between the two players.

In contrast, another group of fans was focused on recalling how Gill's sister, Shahneel, faced online harassment following GT's victory over RCB in IPL 2023. This may have been Gill's subtle response to the negative comments directed at her.

Siraj, Butter shine for GT

Mohammed Siraj achieved figures of 3-19, while Jos Buttler redeemed himself for earlier mistakes behind the stumps by scoring a half-century off 31 balls, contributing to a comprehensive performance by Gujarat Titans (GT). Siraj, who was not retained by Bengaluru, bowled with precision during Bengaluru's initial home match of the season, before Liam Livingstone's impressive 54 runs off 40 balls helped elevate the team's total to 169-8.

Despite dropping one of three catches and failing to stump Livingstone, Buttler delivered a stellar performance, finishing with an unbeaten 73 runs from 39 balls, leading Gujarat to a comfortable 170-2 in just 17.5 overs, thus preventing Bengaluru from securing a third consecutive win.

Shubman Gill praised his bowlers for limiting Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to a subpar score. "By restricting the opposing team to 170, we always felt we were in contention. It is quite surprising how the pitch can behave; at times it plays well, while at other moments it offers assistance to seamers with the new ball. There was assistance for fast bowlers in the first 7-8 overs tonight, and then it started to settle. We believed that if we could avoid losing early wickets, we would remain competitive in the match."
