'Shubman Gill ko bula do': Rohit Sharma annoyed at female fan's repeated request during India's MCG net session – Watch

India conducted their inaugural training session in Melbourne on pristine practice pitches at the outdoor nets of the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), following two days of preparation on previously used surfaces in anticipation of the fourth Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. The series is currently tied at 1-1, with the last match in Brisbane being abandoned due to rain.
After completing an extensive net session on Tuesday, just two days prior to the match, Rohit Sharma approached the spectators who had gathered around the MCG nets to observe the Indian cricket team. He graciously provided autographs to his fans. As he made his way back to the dressing room, a young woman persistently requested that he call Shubman Gill, expressing her admiration for the player.
Initially, Rohit gestured for her to return later, indicating that Gill had already concluded his training and departed the nets. However, as the fan continued to press her request, Rohit, visibly irritated, responded loudly, “Kaha se lau? (where will I get him?)”
The fan later spoke to RevSportz, who recorded the entire incident, explaining that she had arrived late due to having to apply a bandage to her fractured leg. She concluded her remarks by wishing Gill success in the upcoming match.
“My leg is broken. I put on a bandage and came. Yesterday I saw him briefly, but could not say anything because I started crying. I arrived a little late today because of my leg, so I could not meet Shubman. But I hope he makes a comeback,” she stated.
Rohit not worried about Gill's form
There has been a growing concern regarding Gill's performance in away matches. Following his impressive debut at the Gabba in 2021, where he scored a crucial 91 runs, the India No. 3 has recorded only one century in away games, which occurred in Bangladesh in 2022. His average stands at 23.8 over nine Tests played in England, Bangladesh, the West Indies, South Africa, and Australia. In contrast, during the same timeframe, he has accumulated 1,177 runs at an average of 42.03 in home matches, including four centuries across 17 Tests.
In a media interaction on Tuesday, Rohit commented, “In both innings in Adelaide, he appeared quite solid, but unfortunately did not convert those starts into a significant score. He managed 25-30 runs in each innings. I prefer not to dwell too much on his performance in Brisbane, where he was dismissed early. It is important not to overanalyze it. However, Gill has been one of our promising young talents, consistently performing well. These tours can present difficulties. Similarly, when players from other countries visit India, they also face challenges.”
