Shreyas Iyer's thoughtful inquiry about a net bowler's shoe size turns into a memorable experience

During the rigorous preparations for the Champions Trophy, a touching incident occurred at the ICC Academy when Shreyas Iyer, a prominent batter in India's top order, surprised net bowler Jaskiran Singh with a thoughtful gift. Jaskiran, one of the net bowlers selected for the tournament, had been actively participating in practice sessions with teams such as Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Unfortunately, he was unable to bowl to the Indian batters, as Rohit Sharma's team already had an adequate number of off-spinners in their net practice. Although this left him feeling somewhat disheartened, the subsequent event transformed his day entirely.
While fielding at long-off during India's practice, Jaskiran was taken aback when Iyer approached him with a warm greeting. "Paaji kya haal-chaal, sab badiya?" the Indian batter inquired, as reported by PTI. What transpired next was an even greater surprise.
"Shreyas bhai came up to me and asked, 'what's your shoe size?' I replied 10, and then he said he had something for me and handed me these spikes. It truly means a lot," Jaskiran recounted.
For a net bowler eager for the chance to bowl to the Indian team, this moment was exceptionally significant. Despite not having the opportunity to deliver a few balls in the nets, he had fielded for India numerous times during training.
"I am part of the ICC net bowling team for the Champions Trophy. Today was a remarkable moment in my life. I received these spikes from Shreyas Iyer," he expressed.
"In this tournament, I have fielded for them (India) but was looking forward to the chance to bowl to them. I have bowled to Pakistan and Bangladesh; that was a fantastic experience. And then this gesture from Shreyas Bhai means a great deal."
Iyer, who has been a vital contributor for India in the tournament, had recently scored a significant half-century in the high-stakes match against Pakistan last Sunday. This victory secured India's advancement to the semi-finals, further solidifying his role in the middle order.
Dream of bowling to Pant
Jaskiran is nurturing the aspiration of bowling to Rishabh Pant.
"Each batsman in Team India possesses unique qualities, but I particularly admire Rishabh Pant. As a left-handed batsman, the natural angle of my delivery would cause the ball to move away from him. Therefore, it would be a great opportunity for me to bowl to him," he stated.
