Shivam Dube's T20I Snub Raises Eyebrows: Ajit Agarkar's Selection Committee Under Fire

Shivam Dube's exclusion from India's T20I squad for the upcoming five-match series against England has once again put the BCCI selection committee in the spotlight. Dube, who was part of the team that clinched the T20 World Cup last year, seems to have lost the confidence of head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar, as they appear to be moving on without him. The Indian management is now looking at Nitish Kumar Reddy as the second fast-bowling all-rounder alongside Hardik Pandya.

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has questioned Dube's omission, especially given his role in the World Cup-winning team.

"What’s going on with Shivam Dube? I also wanted to mention Ruturaj (Gaikwad), but he hasn’t secured his spot. Rajat Patidar is in the mix too. There’s a lot of competition for batting spots. But I want to focus on Shivam Dube for a moment. He was part of the T20 World Cup-winning squad," he remarked.

Dube made a significant contribution with a quick 27 runs in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa, which proved vital for India's success. While his overall performance in the tournament wasn't stellar, that 16-ball innings in the final is a standout moment in his career.

"When you win, everyone deserves recognition. He played well in the final. Sure, there were concerns about his fielding and batting before that, but he stepped up and helped the team become T20 World Cup champions," Chopra noted.

After the World Cup victory, Dube participated in T20I series in Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka but missed the tour to South Africa and has now been left out of the England series as well.

Shivam Dube just vanished from sight out of nowhere

The ex-cricketer who’s now a commentator pointed out that Dube seems to have vanished from the scene lately.

"He got injured for a bit, didn’t get many chances, and now he’s off the team. Nobody’s even mentioning him. Riyan Parag isn’t being discussed either because of his injury, but no one’s asking about Dube. He just seems to have dropped off the radar," he mentioned.

Chopra emphasized that if a player is good enough to make it to a big tournament like the World Cup, they should definitely be considered for a year or two afterward.

"If he was selected for the World Cup squad, I believe he deserves to play for at least another year or two. He’s been out due to injury, but there was this idea that whoever gets injured would come back first, and the player who replaced them would have to sit out, no matter how well they performed," Chopra explained.
