There are few sights in world cricket as thrilling as Jofra Archer making batters sweat before knocking their stumps down. It doesn’t matter what format, who the batter is, or the playing conditions; when Archer is in form, he’s a force to be reckoned with. On Wednesday, during an IPL 2025 match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill found himself on the receiving end of Archer's wrath.

After delivering a couple of fiery deliveries to Sai Sudharshan in his opening over, Archer faced Gill in the first ball of his second over, sending down a 147 km/h missile that angled in. Gill, who has a tendency to get stuck in his crease early in his innings, went for an ambitious drive, leaving a noticeable gap between his bat and pad.

The ball took full advantage of the opening and sped through to knock over Gill's off stump. Former India head coach Ravi Shastri, who was commentating at the time, quickly pointed out Gill's technical error. "There’s a yawning gap between bat and pad. A dream for the bowler, but not for Gill," Shastri remarked.

Former Australia captain Michael Clarke also noted Gill's mistake. "You always expect pace and swing from Archer. Gill left a massive gap between his bat and pad," he commented.

Gill was dismissed for just 2 runs off 3 balls, bringing joy to captain Sanju Samson, who chose to bowl first after winning the toss in this top-of-the-table showdown.

Archer kicked off IPL 2025 with a pricey opening spell but quickly turned the tide. He delivered an impressive three-wicket performance in RR's recent game against PBKS.

The Royals brought in medium pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi to replace spin all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, who was unavailable due to personal matters.

The home team remained the same.
