Shardul Thakur to LSG? Training Kit Photo Fuels IPL 2025 Speculation
15 hours ago | 5 Views
India all-rounder Shardul Thakur experienced an unexpected outcome at the IPL mega auction held last November, as he went unsold. Despite this setback, he has shifted his focus back to red-ball cricket, aiming for a return to the Indian team for the upcoming tour of England in June. There is a possibility that he may find a new opportunity in IPL 2025, having been seen training with the Lucknow Super Giants.
As reported by the Times of India, the Mumbai player was observed at the LSG training camp on Sunday, wearing the team's jersey. Thakur, who has previously played for franchises such as Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants, also participated in Holi celebrations with the LSG squad. Although images of him in the LSG training attire circulated widely on social media, the franchise has not yet confirmed any official signing.
The right-arm bowler, who wore the CSK jersey last season, was released by the franchise before the mega auction after a disappointing performance, where he managed only five wickets in nine matches and scored a mere 21 runs. During the auction in Jeddah, he received no bids, not even from his former teams. He was brought back for consideration on the second day of the event but remained unsold once again.
However, the all-rounder returned to domestic cricket and produced an impressive show. In Mumbai's run to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy win, he picked up 15 wickets in nine games at 24.53. Later in the Ranji Trophy, he snared 35 wickets in nine matches at 22.62.
Lucknow battles injury woes
Thakur may serve as an ideal enhancement to the franchise, which is presently facing challenges due to injuries. The Indian pace contingent of LSG—comprising Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, and Avesh Khan—has not yet received clearance from the NCA, with less than a week remaining before the commencement of the 18th edition of the IPL. Additionally, Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has stated that he will be available solely as a batsman during the IPL season due to a back injury.
