Bangladesh's star all-rounder and ex-captain, Shakib Al Hasan, has found himself in hot water after an arrest warrant was issued for him due to a bounced cheque at IFIC Bank, according to Cricbuzz on Sunday. Shakib, who declared his retirement from Test cricket last year, has been making headlines for various controversies lately, including being implicated in a murder case amid political turmoil in Bangladesh.

Currently, Shakib is overseas for safety reasons following a student movement in the country. The arrest warrant was issued by Ziadur Rahman, the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in Dhaka.

Last month, on December 15, Shakib was implicated in a cheque fraud case, and the court instructed him to show up just three days later.

Shahibur Rahman, who works as a Relationship Officer at IFC Bank, has taken legal action on behalf of the bank. The case claims that Shakib failed to fulfill his promise to transfer BDT 4,14,57,000 (around 41.4 million Tk) through two different cheques, and there are three other individuals mentioned in the case as well.

Shakib's business, Al Hasan Agro Farm Ltd, is also involved in this situation. The company had taken out loans from the IFIC Bank's Banani branch multiple times; these loans were meant to help pay off other debts, but due to a lack of funds, the cheques bounced.

In 2023, Shakib entered the political arena by joining the Awami League and successfully won the Magura-1 seat..

Shakib was last seen in September

The left-handed all-rounder last played for Bangladesh in September 2024 during the Test series against India. He mentioned wanting to have a farewell Test in Bangladesh, but he hasn't been selected since then.

Shakib has already hung up his boots for T20Is, with his final game being at the T20 World Cup.

His most recent outing in professional cricket was in the Abu Dhabi T10 League, where he played for the Bangla Tigers.
