Shahid Afridi Jokes About Coming Out of Retirement After Rohit’s Six-Hitting Show

Rohit Sharma commenced his innings with great vigour in the second ODI against England, surpassing the legendary West Indies batsman Chris Gayle in a prestigious record. The dynamic opener, who had been experiencing a challenging phase before the match, quickly broke free from his constraints, hitting several early sixes and securing the position of the player with the second-highest number of sixes in One Day Internationals. Rohit equalled Gayle's record until he struck Gus Atkinson for the first six of his innings on Sunday, thereby leaving the West Indies icon behind.
He maintained his momentum in six-hitting, launching a few more sixes against England before play was interrupted due to a floodlight failure in Cuttack.
Currently, the Indian captain trails only former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi, who holds the record for the most sixes in ODIs with a total of 351.

During the broadcast, when the graphic displaying the players with the most sixes in One Day Internationals was shown, the esteemed Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar made a pointed remark directed at Shahid Afridi while discussing Rohit Sharma's pursuit of this significant record.
Gavaskar jestingly suggested that Afridi might consider another return from retirement if Rohit Sharma continues to narrow the gap.
"If Rohit Sharma closes in the gap, then Afridi might be tempted to come out of retirement," Gavaskar remarked during the commentary.
In another development, the Indian captain showcased his return to form by scoring a half-century off just 30 balls in the second ODI, effectively setting the stage for the hosts in their chase of 305 runs. This achievement marked his joint third-fastest fifty in One Day Internationals.

Play stopped due to floodlight failure
During India's innings, the match was temporarily halted for several minutes due to a failure of one of the eight floodlights located near the clock tower, necessitating the players to leave the field.
An official explained, "The generator linked to the floodlight experienced a malfunction, resulting in the lights being turned off in that specific stand behind the clock tower. We activated the backup generator, but the process of switching the connection from one generator to the other took some time, leading to the delay."
