Tensions were palpable between the cricketers of Pakistan and South Africa during their crucial final league match in Karachi on Wednesday. The contest, which was pivotal for securing a place in the tri-series final against New Zealand, witnessed several confrontations on the field. Ultimately, Pakistan achieved a historic milestone by successfully chasing down 353 runs, marking their highest-ever run chase in One Day Internationals, with six wickets and six balls remaining. Captain Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha both delivered remarkable centuries, but the match will also be remembered for the contentious exchanges involving players such as Matthew Breetzke, Temba Bavuma, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Kamran Ghulam, Babar Azam, and Wiaan Mulder at various points throughout the game.

The altercations began in the 28th over of South Africa's innings when Breetzke defended a delivery from Shaheen Afridi and reacted with visible frustration. At that moment, South Africa was comfortably positioned at 168/1, with Breetzke and Bavuma performing exceptionally well. The lack of wickets had led to growing frustration among the Pakistani fielders, which was evident in Afridi's demeanour. The seasoned fast bowler approached Breetzke aggressively, exchanging words before returning to his bowling mark. However, this was merely the beginning of the drama.

Breetzke played Afridi's next delivery towards square leg and attempted a run, only to find Afridi obstructing his path, seemingly on purpose. A slight collision occurred, prompting Shaheen to confront Breetzke directly. Players and umpire Asif Yaqoob intervened to diffuse the situation, leading to further exchanges of words.

Former New Zealand fast bowler Danny Morrison, who was commentating at the time, drew parallels between this incident and Virat Kohli's shoulder jab towards Australian debutant Sam Konstas during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Melbourne the previous year. Kohli faced criticism for his actions and was penalized with a fine and a demerit point.

Breetzke followed his record-setting debut score against New Zealand in Lahore on Monday with an impressive innings of 83 runs off 84 balls, featuring one six and ten boundaries, after South Africa won the toss.

He surpassed the previous record held by West Indian Desmond Haynes, who scored a total of 195 runs in his first two matches in 1978, before being dismissed by a remarkable catch off spinner Khushdil.

"I was frustrated with my shot, and Shaheen thought I had said something to him, but it was nothing serious. We are good friends," Breetzke remarked.

The confrontations continued, as Temba Bavuma received a harsh send-off from the Pakistan fielders, particularly Kamran Ghulam, who nearly confronted the batter after he was run out.

During Pakistan's innings, Wiaan Mulder delivered an animated send-off after taking the wicket of Pakistan's star player, Babar Azam.
