The trio consisting of Shaheen Afridi, Saud Shakeel, and Kamran Ghulam has faced disciplinary action for violating several Level 1 provisions of the ICC Code of Conduct during the third match of the ODI tri-series between Pakistan and South Africa, held at Karachi's National Stadium on Wednesday. The ICC imposed penalties on the three players shortly after Pakistan achieved a historic ODI chase, successfully pursuing a target of 353 runs in 49 overs to secure a spot in the final.

Shaheen Afridi has been fined 25 percent of his match fee due to a physical altercation with South African batsman Matthew Breetzke. The incident occurred during the 28th over of the South African innings when Shaheen obstructed Breetzke as he was running towards the non-striker's end for a single. This confrontation nearly caused Breetzke to fall, leading to a heated exchange between the two players. The situation escalated, requiring intervention to separate them before it could worsen.

According to an ICC statement, "Pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi was fined 25 percent of his match fee for breaching Article 2.12 of the Code, which addresses 'inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other person (including a spectator) during an International Match.'"

Shakeel, Ghulam fined 10 percent

Shakeel and Ghulam also faced penalties. In the subsequent over, both players excessively celebrated the dismissal of South African captain Temba Bavuma. After Bavuma was run out at the striker's end, Shakeel and Ghulam approached him aggressively, celebrating in a manner that interrupted him before he could leave the pitch. Consequently, both players were fined 10 percent of their match fee.

The ICC's release noted, "Both players were found guilty of breaching Article 2.5 of the Code, which pertains to 'using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match.'"

Besides fines, all three players also handed one demerit point. Shaheen, Shakeel and Ghulam accepted the sanctions.
