Sediqullah Atal narrowly missed scoring a century during Afghanistan's ongoing Champions Trophy 2025 Group B match against Australia in Lahore. He achieved a commendable score of 85 runs from 95 deliveries, which included six boundaries and three sixes, establishing himself as a key player in the first innings while his teammates struggled to make significant contributions.

Atal entered the match at the number three position and was immediately called to bat after opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz was dismissed for a duck on the fifth ball. Additionally, Ibrahim Zadran was unable to provide support, falling for 22 runs off 28 balls in the 14th over.

There is growing speculation regarding Sediqullah Atal's participation in IPL 2025. His impressive performance has ignited discussions on social media, with fans inquiring about his potential involvement. Although his base price was set at ₹75 lakhs, he remained unsold during the previous year's mega auction.

Atal, who favors the opener position, made his international debut in 2023. He was initially included in the squad for the ODI series against Pakistan, which was postponed due to the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan. He also served as a reserve player in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

In a previous match against England, he was dismissed for just four runs off four balls, although Afghanistan managed to secure an eight-run victory. In their opening loss to South Africa, he scored only 16 runs from 32 balls.

On Friday, Atal was dismissed on the second delivery of the 32nd over, falling short of his century. He attempted to drive a full delivery from Spencer Johnson but ended up hitting it high into the air, where it was caught by a fielder at cover.

To advance to the semi-finals, Afghanistan must secure a victory against Australia, who currently hold second place in Group B with three points. Afghanistan sits in third place with two points from two matches, while South Africa leads the group with three points. England, having been eliminated, remains at the bottom with no points from two matches.
