The Kolkata Knight Riders' home match against the Lucknow Super Giants, scheduled for April 6, may be postponed due to the lack of security clearance from the city police. This match coincides with the Ram Navami festivities, which are expected to necessitate increased security measures throughout West Bengal, as BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has previously indicated that over 20,000 processions will occur.

As reported by, Snehasish Ganguly, president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), has confirmed that authorities have explicitly stated their inability to provide sufficient security at Eden Gardens for the event. Ganguly remarked, "Without police protection, it is unfeasible to accommodate a crowd of 65,000."

Ganguly further noted that the CAB has communicated the situation to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). "There is still time to make a final decision. Last year, an IPL match scheduled on Ram Navami also had to be rescheduled," he added, referencing a previous match between KKR and the Rajasthan Royals that was postponed due to similar security issues.

Eden Gardens is also set to host the season opener featuring KKR, the reigning champions, against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Saturday. This match will be preceded by a lavish 35-minute opening ceremony, which may include performances by singer Shreya Ghoshal and actress Disha Patani. "This is a marquee match with high ticket demand. Eden Gardens will host an opening ceremony after a significant hiatus," stated Snehasish, while withholding further details about the event.

KKR enters the season under new captain Ajinkya Rahane, following the departure of Shreyas Iyer, who led the team to victory in 2024 and was acquired by the Punjab Kings during last year's mega auction. The announcement was made last week by KKR CEO Venky Mysore, who emphasized that Rahane's extensive experience and "maturity" in managing the pressures of a tournament as intense as the IPL made him the ideal candidate for the captaincy.
