Saurashtra Set to Welcome Jadeja: Will It Spark a Showdown with Pant?
3 months ago | 5 Views
With prominent Indian players aiming to return to the Ranji Trophy following the BCCI's new directive to emphasize domestic cricket for national team selection, the anticipated commencement of the second half of the 2024/25 red-ball tournament raises the prospect of Ravindra Jadeja facing off against Rishabh Pant. This comes after reports indicated that Jadeja joined the Saurashtra camp on Sunday.
While both players have frequently competed against each other in the Indian Premier League (IPL), a clash in the red-ball format would be particularly captivating, especially after their recent partnership in Sydney during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia.
As reported by Cricbuzz, Jadeja was seen participating in a net session with the Saurashtra team on Sunday, suggesting his readiness for the upcoming match against Delhi in Rajkot, scheduled to commence on January 23 at Ground C, adjacent to the Niranjan Shah Stadium.
The Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) has yet to confirm Jadeja's availability for the match, as he last participated in a Ranji Trophy game in January 2023, where he captained the team against Tamil Nadu in Chennai.
Which other Indian players are expected to participate in the Ranji Trophy?
India captain Rohit Sharma, who trained with the Mumbai team earlier this week at Wankhede Stadium, has confirmed his participation in the upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir on January 23 at the MCA Stadium. Additionally, fellow opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is also set to play in that match. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill, recently appointed as the ODI vice-captain for the Champions Trophy, will represent Punjab in their Ranji Trophy fixture.
Virat Kohli and KL Rahul will be absent from the forthcoming round of the Ranji Trophy matches as they are still in the process of recuperating from their individual injuries. There remains uncertainty regarding Kohli's participation in Delhi's final group match of the Ranji Trophy against Railways next week. However, according to a report by Cricbuzz, Rahul may be available for Karnataka's match against Haryana in Bengaluru starting January 30.
