Saud Shakeel’s Epic Jibe at PCB: ‘If I Become Chairman, I’ll Bring Stability’
7 days ago | 5 Views
Pakistan cricketer Saud Shakeel recently threw some shade at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in a viral interview that caught everyone's attention online. He poked fun at the PCB for not being able to secure a long-term head coach.
In an 18-second clip that circulated widely, Shakeel was asked what his first move would be if he became the chairman of the PCB. He responded, "The first thing I’d do is hire a permanent coach for three years, someone who can't be kicked out, even after I'm no longer in charge." This answer had the host in stitches.
In the past two years, there have been 16 coaches and 26 selectors
Shakeel's comments come at a time when there's a lot of uncertainty surrounding Pakistan's coaching staff. Aaqib Javed, the interim coach, mentioned last month that the team has seen a staggering 16 coaches and 26 selectors come and go in just two years. Recently, Mickey Arthur was let go before the T20 World Cup last year and was succeeded by Mohammad Hafeez. Following that, Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie joined the team, but Kirsten stepped down as the white-ball coach after only six months, and Gillespie resigned in December after being removed from the selection panel.
The captaincy has also changed hands rapidly since the 2023 ODI World Cup. After a disappointing performance in the tournament, Babar Azam was dismissed as captain and replaced by Shaheen Afridi for T20Is and Shan Masood for Tests. However, Shaheen was removed after just one series, and Babar was brought back to lead the team for the 2024 T20 World Cup, only to be replaced again by Mohammad Rizwan, who is now under scrutiny following Pakistan's dismal group-stage exit in the Champions Trophy last month.
Pakistan's struggles in the ODI format continued with a 0-2 defeat against New Zealand. They lost the second ODI in Hamilton by 84 runs and are now on the brink of a whitewash. The final match of the series is set to take place in Mount Maunganui on Saturday.
