Sanju Samson will be unable to participate in Kerala's Ranji Trophy quarter-final against Jammu and Kashmir due to an injury. The Indian wicketkeeper-batter sustained a fracture in his index finger after being struck by a delivery from Jofra Archer during the fifth and final T20I against England at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

As reported by the news agency PTI, Sanju Samson has returned to his home in Thiruvananthapuram. He is expected to commence training following the completion of his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

It is important to note that all players must receive clearance from the NCA before resuming competitive play. Currently, it is anticipated that Sanju Samson will make his return during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 with the Rajasthan Royals

"Samson has fractured his right index finger. It will take him five to six weeks before he can resume proper nets. Therefore, he will not be available for the Ranji Trophy quarter-final for Kerala (against J&K) in Pune from February 8-12," PTI cited a source.

"The likelihood is that his return will occur in the IPL for the Rajasthan Royals," the source further stated.

Samson was struck on the third delivery of the match bowled by Archer, which was clocked at nearly 150 km/h. According to the report, the swelling in Sanju's finger worsened after he returned to the dugout, and subsequent scans confirmed the fracture.

Sanju Samson struggles for runs against England

Sanju Samson, who entered the T20I series against England following an impressive performance that included three centuries in his last five T20I matches, experienced a disappointing series overall.

The right-handed batsman managed to accumulate only 51 runs across the five matches, with his highest score being 26 in the opening T20I held in Kolkata. He was dismissed while attempting the same shot against short deliveries from bowlers such as Archer, Mark Wood, and Saqib Mahmood.

Previously, Sanju Samson was excluded from India's squad for the three ODIs against England and the Champions Trophy. The 30-year-old will now have to await his next chance to represent the team.

He is expected to make his next appearance in the Indian jersey during an away series against Bangladesh scheduled for August.

Additionally, Sanju Samson recently missed the Vijay Hazare Trophy due to his inability to attend a preparatory camp.
