"Sanju Samson Draws Yuvraj Singh Comparisons Ahead of Champions Trophy 2025"

Sanju Samson made a notable resurgence in T20 internationals last year following a prolonged period of inconsistency in the format. The wicketkeeper-batter has experienced fluctuations in his selection throughout his career; however, a series of impressive performances secured him a position in the T20 World Cup-winning team in June. He maintained his exceptional form during the bilateral series against Bangladesh and South Africa.
Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar commended Samson, emphasizing that the wicketkeeper-batter benefited from a 'good run' of matches, which enabled him to establish his presence. Samson achieved centuries against both Bangladesh and South Africa while opening the batting for his team.
"I am pleased to witness the success he is currently enjoying. He has been part of the setup for a considerable time. It is simply that he has received the right opportunities and a consistent run of games, as every batter thrives when playing three or four matches consecutively, which alleviates some pressure," Bangar remarked to Star Sports, as reported by Sportskeeda.
Bangar also likened Samson to Yuvraj Singh, noting that the wicketkeeper-batter's ability to hit sixes is reminiscent of the legendary former player.
"By batting higher up the order, he does not have to concern himself with the match situation. With the fielding restrictions in place, he is a natural six-hitter. He can effortlessly clear the boundary. After Yuvraj Singh, if there is one player who can consistently perform this feat with such ease, it is Sanju Samson. Witnessing him perform at his best is truly a delight," Bangar observed.
Samson prepared for his return
Samson is expected to be included in the Indian squad as it resumes limited-overs cricket this month with a series against England. This series will represent India's initial foray into limited-overs formats since October of the previous year.
In addition to his anticipated return in T20 Internationals, it is probable that he will also be called up for One Day Internationals, particularly with KL Rahul likely to be given a rest. Samson's last appearance in an ODI was in December 2023 against South Africa. With the Champions Trophy approaching in February, the player from Kerala will be looking to make a significant impact if he is selected for the three-match ODI series.
