Rajasthan Royals' captain Sanju Samson received a warning from the umpire during the IPL 2025 match against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday, resulting in a brief interruption of the game. This incident took place near the conclusion of Delhi's innings, as they aimed to set a target of 189 runs for Rajasthan.
The situation arose on the last ball of the second-to-last over when Jofra Archer delivered a slower bouncer to Ashutosh Sharma. The umpire promptly called it a wide ball, after which the on-field officials approached Samson to issue a caution. A replay of the delivery revealed that Samson was positioned nearly at the edge of the 30-yard circle. The umpires engaged in a brief discussion with the Rajasthan captain, who was seen animatedly defending his position.
Graeme Swann, the former England cricketer, who was commentating during the incident, remarked: "You can't do that. You need to be in a position to catch the ball. Standing on the edge of the ring is not acceptable, even if it’s Jofra Archer bowling. That’s likely what Samson will argue now. He bowls at 147. This is where I need to be.
"However, you can't make that exception for just one delivery. It's quite evident. Just in case the pitch suddenly behaves like the WACA, which is highly unlikely to happen here at the Arun Jaitley Stadium," he added with a laugh.

A collective batting effort saw Delhi post a mammoth 188/5 against Rajasthan Royals, with Abishek Porel top-scoring with his well-composed 49. Porel and KL Rahul (38) laid a solid foundation with a 63-run stand, before Axar Patel's blistering 13-ball 34, along with Tristan Stubbs’ (34 no off 18 balls) late surge, provided the final flourish in an innings where momentum swung like a pendulum between the two sides.
