Former Indian cricketer and 1983 World Cup champion, Madan Lal, expressed his frustration on Wednesday towards Sanjiv Goenka, the owner of the Lucknow Super Giants, for engaging in a public conversation with team captain Rishabh Pant after their loss to Punjab Kings on Tuesday. LSG faced an eight-wicket defeat in their first home match of IPL 2025.

Footage of Goenka's lively discussion with Pant quickly spread across social media on Tuesday. This wasn't the first time such an interaction raised eyebrows. Earlier this season, after LSG's nail-biting loss to Delhi Capitals, Goenka was seen having an extensive chat with Pant, which made fans uneasy, recalling a similar situation with KL Rahul.

It's worth mentioning that last season, Goenka had a lengthy and animated talk with Rahul, who was then the LSG captain, following a defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad. That incident drew significant backlash, and it was reported that their relationship soured, leading to Rahul leaving Lucknow before the auction last November. He subsequently joined Delhi Capitals for IPL 2025.

"I’m not privy to what Rishabh and Mr. Sanjiv Goenka discussed. Such conversations can happen behind closed doors. Let the players enjoy the game and play freely. T20 cricket is very unpredictable," Madan shared on X, previously known as Twitter.

Disappointing kickoff for Pant in IPL 2025

The wicketkeeper-batter had a rough beginning to IPL 2025, with LSG dropping to sixth place after securing one win and suffering two losses under his leadership. His batting performance hasn't been great either; in three innings, he managed only 17 runs off 26 balls, averaging 5.67. On Tuesday, he was out for just two runs, falling to Glenn Maxwell for the third time in his career.

LSG's next match is against the Mumbai Indians at home on April 4.
