Kolkata: The situation regarding the outstanding salaries for players and staff at Mohammedan Sporting took a significant turn on Tuesday when their investor announced that the memorandum of understanding with the club has lapsed and that the transfer of shares remains incomplete. The investor indicated that no funds would be disbursed until the issues are resolved.

Shrachi Sports, which entered into a three-year partnership with Mohammedan Sporting last August, issued a press release on Tuesday stating that it finds itself in a conflict between the club and its original investors, Bunker Hill. Bunker Hill, a sports management firm located in Gurugram, assumed control of the club in 2020, and Shrachi Sports acquired a stake from them before Mohammedan Sporting's debut in the Indian Super League (ISL) this season.

However, the issuance of a legal notice by Bunker Hill has resulted in a legal deadlock, preventing Shrachi Sports from releasing funds, as stated in their press release. “We have already invested more than 50% of our committed funds into Mohammedan Sporting Club Pvt. Ltd,” Shrachi Sports remarked.

According to the media release, the club has failed to transfer 61% of the shares to Bunker Hill as previously agreed. “We have also not received any shares from the club despite numerous assurances to that effect.” This statement was disseminated through the club’s WhatsApp group.

A representative from Mohammedan Sporting acknowledged that the share transfer has not occurred but noted that many of the issues were addressed in a meeting on Tuesday that included representatives from Shrachi Sports, Bunker Hill, and the club. The official was unable to provide a timeline for when salaries would be disbursed. Speaking on the condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the matter, the official mentioned that salaries are only pending for December.

The ongoing impasse resulted in most players missing training on Monday. “However, a gym session was organized today, and all players participated,” the official confirmed.

With only two victories in 16 matches, the 125-year-old club currently occupies the second-to-last position in the 13-team standings, accumulating 11 points. Nonetheless, Mohammedan Sporting had shown potential.
