On the concluding day of Week 2 of the Celebrity Cricket League 2025, the matches were relocated to the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. The opening match featured the Bhojpuri Dabanggs, who, following an initial victory in their campaign, suffered a significant defeat against the Telugu Warriors in their second match. A win in this encounter was essential for them to maintain their aspirations. Their adversaries, Punjab De Sher, were participating in only their second match. Although they had lost their first game, they demonstrated the ability to present a formidable challenge despite the setback.

Punjab De Sher's initial innings performance was underwhelming, and although they struggled to contain the Dabanggs, the lead established was not excessively large. With a resolve to improve, Punjab De Sher achieved a more respectable score in their second innings. However, considering the high-scoring nature of the tournament, this total appeared insufficient for defense. Nevertheless, they successfully managed to secure a victory over the Dabanggs by a margin of 13 runs.

CCL 2025: Day 2 - Match 3 Bengal Tigers achieve their second consecutive win; swiftly overcome Punjab De Sher

Harrdy Sandhu won the toss and opted to bat first—a choice he might have regretted later, as nearly half of the team's runs were contributed by him. In their 10 overs, Punjab De Sher reached a modest target of 81 runs, losing 4 wickets in the process, with Harrdy scoring 37 and 10 runs coming from extras. The Punjab De Sher batsmen cannot be entirely blamed, as the Dabanggs bowled with precision and maintained an economical rate, conceding only 10-11 runs per over. For instance, Asgar Khan allowed just 8 runs in his 2 overs while also claiming a wicket.

In response, the Dabanggs lost Pravesh early on for 8 runs, but Aditya (29) and Anshuman (38) put on a good partnership. Asgar’s bat did not yield many runs, departing with only 12 to his credit, and neither did Sudhir or Uday, and yet, the team got to 104-5, giving them a 23-run lead, heading into the second innings. Punjab De Sher gave away only 4 runs as extras, but that was not enough to keep the Dabanggs from getting to the target and beyond comfortably.

The Punjab De Shers faced a significant deficit and needed to adopt an aggressive approach, aiming for substantial runs. Harrdy Sandhu attempted to provide a solid foundation for his team; however, after his dismissal for a mere 16 runs, the remaining batsmen appeared to lack focus, aimlessly playing the ball without a clear strategy to build a competitive score. This lack of direction prompted questions from the commentators regarding their performance. At the conclusion of the first five overs, the team found themselves at 47-3, holding a narrow lead of just 24 runs.

However, in response to the commentators' observations, Dakssh and Anuj accelerated their scoring, resulting in a significant shift in momentum. Their partnership yielded 80 runs and was only interrupted in the final over when Anuj's poorly timed shot was caught by a fielder. Dakssh, who had been instrumental in the scoring up to that point, continued to lead the charge, guiding the team to a total of 126-4, establishing a lead of 103 runs and setting a target of 104 for the Dabanggs to chase for victory.

The Dabanggs faced a second consecutive disappointment in the latter half of their innings. Although Asgar delivered a commendable performance, scoring 43 runs off just 20 balls, the rest of the team struggled significantly, with only skipper Manoj Tiwari managing to score above single digits. This lack of support made the target increasingly elusive for the Dabanggs. Ultimately, they could only muster a total of 89 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their 10 overs, following an impressive final over by Harrdy Sandhu, which effectively secured victory for Punjab De Sher.

CCL 2025 will now move to Surat for the final group stage matches on February 22 and 23. At the moment, the Karnataka Bulldozers are at the top of the table with 3 consecutive wins, followed by the Bengal Tigers, who now play their third match, this time against the Mumbai Heroes in Cuttack.
