Sachin Tendulkar, regarded as one of the greatest figures in cricket history, is set to receive the esteemed Lifetime Achievement Award from the BCCI during the Board's annual gala on Saturday. This legendary batsman, who transformed the game with his exceptional technique and enduring career, will be honoured for the year 2024.

A BCCI source informed Hindustan Times, "Indeed, Sachin will be recognized at the Naman Awards on Saturday. It is high time he received this accolade, considering all he has accomplished for Indian cricket. We will be presenting him with the CK Nayudu award."

With an impressive total of 664 international matches, Tendulkar holds the record as the highest run-scorer in both Test and ODI formats, amassing 15,921 runs in Tests and an extraordinary 18,426 runs in ODIs.

His records for the most Test (200) and ODI (463) matches played remain unbroken, underscoring his dominance across different eras. He also participated in one T20I during his career. Tendulkar's influence on Indian cricket transcends mere statistics, as he has inspired millions through his remarkable performances.

He joins an exclusive group of previous awardees, which included former India head coach Ravi Shastri and legendary wicketkeeper-batter Farokh Engineer, who received the honour last year.

This recognition from the BCCI further solidifies Tendulkar's legacy as one of the most revered figures in the sport, nearly a decade after his retirement from international cricket.

Tendulkar's legacy

Regarded as one of the greatest cricketers in history, Tendulkar made his international debut at the age of 16 during India's tour of Pakistan in 1989. Throughout the 1990s, he served as the cornerstone of the Indian batting lineup, delivering remarkable performances against elite teams worldwide.

In addition to his well-documented batting records, Tendulkar played a pivotal role in India's triumph at the 2011 World Cup, marking his sixth and final appearance in this prestigious tournament.

At the height of his career, his dominance was so pronounced that opposing teams often acknowledged that securing his wicket was their top priority, understanding the psychological advantage he provided to India merely by his presence at the crease.

Tendulkar has been honoured as the 31st recipient of the esteemed C K Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award, which was established in 1994 to commemorate India's first Test captain, Colonel C K Nayudu.
