Being recognized as a promising talent is one thing, but getting praise from Sachin Tendulkar takes it to a whole new level. The Master Blaster, often hailed as the greatest batsman ever and the most well-rounded Indian cricketer, definitely knows talent when he sees it. He was the one who noticed MS Dhoni's potential as a captain before anyone else and suggested it to the BCCI. Plus, he accurately predicted that Mitchell Johnson would shine in the 2013 Ashes, and wow, did he ever! And back in 2012, he confidently said that Virat Kohli would break his records when most people didn’t think the young player had a shot.
Tendulkar's legacy is etched in history, showcasing his brilliance not just with the bat but also as a cricketer and a person. He remains the standard, the ultimate example of batting excellence. Now at 51, he’s gearing up to step back onto the cricket field for the International Masters League starting February 22. Even from the sidelines, Tendulkar keeps a close eye on Indian cricket, and this time, he’s showering praise on young Abhishek Sharma, who’s been impressing everyone with his stunning batting skills.
"His bat swing is so smooth. He has every shot in the book. He packs a surprising amount of power, even if he’s not the biggest guy out there. His timing is just perfect. I really enjoy watching him play, hitting sixes and fours all over the field. It’s a real treat," Tendulkar shared during a chat with Star Sports.
Young Abhishek has already made quite an impression
Abhishek is definitely making waves, and it’s easy to see why. He’s captured the hearts of cricket fans across India and is already in the mix with stars like Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal in the T20I squad. After debuting against Zimbabwe last year, he scored a century in just his second match and has added two fifties to his name, with his latest being a solid 79 against England at Eden Gardens, helping India secure a convincing victory.
As a protégé of the legendary Yuvraj Singh, Abhishek is being hailed as one of the future stars of Indian cricket. He lit up the IPL 2024 with an impressive 484 runs, playing a key role in taking Sunrisers Hyderabad to the finals. His strike rate of 182.75 after only 15 T20Is really highlights his explosive batting skills, something Tendulkar has also pointed out.
