Sachin Tendulkar Amazed by ‘Superman-Like’ Catch in Sheffield Shield

A remarkable catch in recent cricket history occurred during a Sheffield Shield match between Western Australia and Victoria, garnering the attention of one of the sport's legends, Sachin Tendulkar, who expressed his admiration on social media.
Victoria secured a narrow 24-run victory over Western Australia at the WACA, with 22-year-old opening batsman Campbell Kellaway shining brightly by scoring an impressive unbeaten 165 in the third innings. However, it was not this outstanding performance that became the highlight of the match; rather, it was his extraordinary catch in the outfield that stole the show.
With Western Australia down to seven wickets and needing fewer than 80 runs to win, Cameron Gannon attempted a hook shot off Victoria's captain, Will Sutherland, directing the ball towards long leg, where Kellaway was positioned. Initially misjudging the trajectory and moving in the wrong direction, Kellaway quickly regained his composure and executed a remarkable backward dive, extending his hand to secure a stunning catch at a pivotal moment in the game.
The remarkable one-handed catch in the outfield garnered significant attention, but none was more meaningful to Kellaway than the praise he received from Tendulkar on X.
“Was it an audition for Spiderman or Superman? This is truly a mind-boggling catch. Simply awesome," commended the 51-year-old Indian cricket icon on his social media account.
‘Better than his 150…’
Kellaway also earned accolades from his captain, Sutherland, who described it as the finest catch he had ever witnessed.
“To be honest, I don’t think I have seen a better catch. The filming captured it well, although it’s not the Big Bash cameras. For him to make that catch in the sun is quite extraordinary. It’s almost better than his 150,” remarked Sutherland.
This catch, along with Kellaway’s outstanding player-of-the-match performance, was a significant setback for Western Australia, who were still in contention for a fifth consecutive Sheffield Shield final with a victory in this match. Unfortunately, this defeat left them at the bottom of a tightly contested table, while Marnus Labuschagne’s Queensland advanced to the finals at their expense. They are scheduled to face dominant South Australia at the Karen Rolston Oval.
