SRH Threaten to Exit Hyderabad Over 'Hostile Environment' Allegations

SunRisers Hyderabad, under the leadership of Pat Cummins, are contemplating relocating from their current home ground and may opt not to host their IPL 2025 matches at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. The 2016 champions have expressed dissatisfaction with what they perceive as intimidation and coercion from the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) officials regarding complimentary tickets. This situation has prompted the franchise to reconsider their venue for upcoming home games.
As reported by the Times of India, Srinath TB, the general manager of SunRisers Hyderabad, has addressed a letter to HCA treasurer CJ Srinivas Rao, emphasizing that the franchise will not accept such conduct.
In the ongoing 18th season of the lucrative league, SunRisers Hyderabad has played two matches in their home city. They secured a victory against the Rajasthan Royals but fell short against the Lucknow Super Giants.
Srinath's email, as cited by the Times of India, stated, "The unprofessional threats and actions from HCA, particularly from the HCA president, clearly indicate that you do not wish for Sunrisers to continue playing at your stadium. If that is indeed your position, please confirm in writing so we can notify the BCCI, the Telangana government, and our management about your preference for us to seek an alternative venue, which we will do."
He further remarked, "We have collaborated with HCA for the past 12 years. However, it has only been since last season that we have encountered ongoing issues and harassment from HCA."
'Unprofessional behaviour creates hostile environment'
Reports indicate that a significant dispute arose between the franchise and the HCA after representatives from the state cricket organization secured a box on the day of the match between SRH and LSG.
"For many years, HCA has received 50 complimentary tickets (F12A box) as part of the total 3,900 complimentary tickets. However, this year, you are asserting that the box can only accommodate 30 individuals and are requesting an additional 20 complimentary tickets in a separate box. Upon learning of this, we communicated that we would discuss the matter and seek a mutually agreeable resolution," he stated in the email.
"Please be aware that we pay the appropriate rental fees for the stadium, and during the IPL season, the stadium falls under our authority. However, in the last match, you locked the F3 box and refused to unlock it unless you were provided with 20 extra complimentary tickets. This unprofessional conduct fosters a hostile atmosphere, complicating our ability to collaborate," he continued.
The franchise's manager also noted that these issues have been escalating since the previous season and are now becoming unmanageable.
"Moreover, we must emphasize that this is not the first occurrence of such intimidation, threats, and coercion directed at our staff by HCA over the past two years. The HCA president has made several threats this year, which have been brought to HCA's attention," the email further elaborated.
"In light of the ongoing threats, coercion, and blackmail from HCA, we propose adhering to the signed agreement between us, which stipulates that we will allocate 10 percent of complimentary tickets across each stand. Given these circumstances, we formally request a meeting with the apex council members at the earliest opportunity to discuss and resolve this issue," the email concluded.
